Representatives of the Coalition for Freedom of Expression and Content Moderation in Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in the International Conference on Digital Platform Governance: Building a Global Forum of Regulators that was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia from 17-19 June, 2024. The conference brought together over 250 participants from around the world and from 87 regulatory bodies, both physically and virtually, over a shared commitment to prioritize human rights and freedom of expression in digital platform governance.

Our members from Mediacentar Sarajevo and Press Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina participated in three days of discussions about the current issues facing regulation of online platforms, as well as in meetings with other coalitions established with the support of UNESCO’s Social Media 4 Peace project. During a day-long session, representatives from Kenya, Indonesia, Columbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina talked about the achievements and challenges of establishing and growing the coalitions and exchanged valuable experiences and lessons learned throughout the process.

On the second day of the conference, Anida Sokol from Mediacentar Sarajevo participated in a plenary session “Multi-stakeholder coalitions: local knowledge for the governance of digital platforms” with representatives from Uruguay, Kenya, Indonesia and Ecuador and shared experiences of the Coalition for Freedom of Expression and Content Moderation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event was co-hosted by the Croatian Agency for Electronic Media and was attended by representatives of networks of regulators, as well as digital platforms, governments, think tanks, self-regulators, electoral managerial bodies, and civil society. They committed to working together to implement the Guidelines for the Governance of Digital Platforms by co-funding a Global Forum of Regulators, hosted by UNESCO, which will meet regularly, along with civil society, to coordinate their efforts for better governance of digital platforms.
